field sessions is a collection of intriguing sounds captured to freeze a moment in time which will never occur like this again. what remains is soundscape de-contextualised but full of potential. make of it whatever you can, there are no limits to the sky…….
this track has been recorded inside phnom penh’s central market on the 08th of march 2017 at 30 minutes past noon. referred to as “psar thmei” in the local khmer language, which translates as “new market”, is a fascinating and intensely beautiful art deco structure located on the north western side of phnom penh’s city centre which survived years of political turmoil and neglect without much visible damage. upon approaching and entering the attentive listener is immediately stricken by the structures ambience. although, not only its unique sonic properties make it an intriguing space to explore but also the seemingly infinite amount of jewellery offered on all stalls inside the central hall. a sphere which tries to evoke eternal glamour and pride. grandeur. glistening jewels on cheap alloy. bling. heavenly voices seducing the shopper in a sacred place. enjoy.
